White Clay Powder Kaolin Indonesia High Purity

WHITE CLAY POWDER

White Clay Powder is a high-purity natural mineral material primarily composed of kaolinite, a hydrated aluminum silicate (Al₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄). It is formed through the natural weathering and hydrothermal alteration of feldspathic rocks such as granite over geological timescales. The raw material is carefully extracted and subjected to a series of advanced beneficiation and refining processes, including washing, classification, sedimentation, magnetic separation, filtration, controlled drying, and ultra-fine grinding. These processes are designed to remove impurities, control particle size distribution, and enhance overall product consistency.

Its characteristic white to off-white color is attributed to its extremely low content of iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) and other coloring minerals, resulting in high brightness and excellent optical properties. White clay also exhibits low abrasiveness, good chemical inertness, and stable rheological behavior, making it suitable for sensitive and high-specification applications. In addition, its plate-like particle structure contributes to improved coverage, smoothness, and reinforcement when used as a filler or coating material.

Due to these properties, White Clay Powder is widely utilized across multiple industries that demand high levels of purity, whiteness, and performance, including ceramics, paper, paints, polymers, agriculture, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

Chemical Composition (Typical Range)

Component

  • SiO₂ (Silicon Dioxide) = 45 – 55 %
  • Al₂O₃ (Aluminum Oxide) = 30 – 40 %
  • Fe₂O₃ (Iron Oxide) = ≤ 1 %
  • CaO (Calcium Oxide) = ≤ 1 %
  • MgO (Magnesium Oxide) = ≤ 1 %
  • K₂O + Na₂O (Alkalis) = 1 – 3 %
  • Moisture = 5 – 12 %

The low Fe₂O₃ content is responsible for its bright white appearance and high brightness index.

Physical Properties

  • Color: White to off-white
  • Particle Size: Typically 200–400 mesh (customizable)
  • Texture: Very fine, soft, smooth
  • Plasticity: Low to moderate (depending on grade)
  • Specific Gravity ±2.6
  • Brightness: High (>80% ISO, depending on grade)
  • Moisture Retention: Moderate
  • pH: Neutral to slightly acidic (4.5 – 7)

Mineralogical Structure

  • The dominant mineral phase is:
  • Kaolinite (Al₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄)
  • Minor associated minerals may include:
  • Quartz
  • Illite
  • Trace feldspar
  • The predominance of kaolinite gives white clay its low shrinkage, good workability, and excellent chemical inertness.
